Comfortable Dental Treatment with Sedation Options

For some, fear of the dentist’s chair is enough to keep them out of the office entirely. While dental anxiety is certainly a common issue, we believe it should never keep you from receiving the care you need to maintain a healthy, pain-free smile. As part of our commitment to making your experience as comfortable as possible we are proud to offer sedation dentistry.

Is sedation dentistry right for me?

Sedative medications help you relax by slowing the action of your central nervous system. This has a deeply calming effect’often patients have little to no memory of the actual appointment. Throughout the procedure, you will remain awake enough to communicate with your dentist, letting them know how you feel.

It is important that you have a friend or family member drive you to and from your appointment, as sedation medications may leave you groggy. If anxiety is interfering with your oral health, let’s talk. Our dentists can help determine if sedation dentistry is right for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I drive myself home after sedation?

If you receive oral sedation, IV sedation, or general anesthesia, you will need someone to drive you home as the effects may impair your ability to drive. Nitrous oxide allows for immediate recovery, and you may be able to drive after the procedure.

How long do the effects of sedation last?

The effects of sedation vary by method. Nitrous oxide wears off quickly, while oral sedation and IV sedation may take a few hours to wear off. General anesthesia may take several hours before you feel fully alert.

Will I be asleep during the procedure?

It depends on the level of sedation chosen. With nitrous oxide or oral sedation, you will be awake but deeply relaxed. With IV sedation or general anesthesia, you may be in a sleep-like state or fully asleep.

Is sedation dentistry safe?

Yes, sedation dentistry is very safe when performed by a trained and experienced oral surgeon. Dr. Grossi will evaluate your health history and tailor the sedation method to ensure safety throughout the procedure.
